Faces of Homelessness II

Homelessness is a worldwide problem. Living in downtown Chicago, I am confronted with it every day as I go about my daily life. I see so many different faces, each with a unique and compelling story about how they wound up on the streets requesting money from strangers. Our society is moving in the direction of shredding the social safety net, which will make the lives of our most vulnerable fellow-citizens that much harder.

Pigeon Hill Portraits : Then and Now

From 1987-1991, I photographed the residents of Bloomington’s housing projects, an area on the west side known as “Pigeon Hill”.

Revenants

Jeffrey Wolin’s work is essentially one of making portraits in which words - often handwritten on the picture - act as a detonator whose grenade is the picture. This work is occupied by memory. Furthermore should we rather say that it is haunted by the survivors. Jeffrey Wolin’s pictures are portraits and those who accept to pose for him are alive, but they all come back from "far away".

Revenants
